The ability to achieve career goals where the commute is minimal and there is plenty of time to enjoy beautiful beaches before or after work or the bush on the weekend, is the balance that exists on the South Coast. Add to that a career in some of Australia’s most dynamic industries and you have the reality for those living and working in the Defence and Manufacturing sectors, where opportunity meets lifestyle in a way few other regions can offer.
Recently, when we gathered stakeholders from the Defence and Manufacturing industries to explore the unique employment value proposition (EVP) of the region, four key themes emerged that make the South Coast a standout choice.
They told us they value:
- The lifestyle here– with the natural environment, beaches and reduced commuting times, residents are well placed to enjoy a relaxed lifestyle.
- The diversity of the industry– This region is home to an impressive ecosystem of Defence and Manufacturing businesses, including two major defence bases, the Aviation Technology Park, and large-scale manufacturing operations.
- Connectivity and collaboration– Strategically positioned with access to a major port, an airport, and improved road infrastructure to capital cities, the South Coast is an ideal location for business and career growth. Even more importantly, the strong sense of collaboration among businesses, suppliers, and community networks creates an environment where ideas flourish, partnerships thrive, and success is shared.
- A bright future for the industry– The South Coast’s Defence and Manufacturing sectors are poised for exponential growth. With a marine expansion, newly developed industrial land, and exciting projects on the horizon, the potential here is limitless. It is home to a vast skill set to take advantage of these opportunities.
One standout development is the Flinders Industrial Estate in South Nowra. Shoalhaven City Council recently expanded this estate, adding six hectares of industrial land on Norfolk Avenue, featuring eight serviced lots. Several businesses have already seized the opportunity to establish or expand their presence, including Nowchem, a Nowra-based chemical manufacturing company, and Essence Group, a leader in nutraceuticals and infant nutrition production.
John Lamont, Managing Director of Nowchem and President of the Shoalhaven Business Chamber, emphasises the significance of these developments:
“Shoalhaven Council has ongoing developments in Bomaderry, North Nowra, South Nowra, Huskisson, and Yerriyong. The newly developed sites will not only benefit existing businesses and residents but will undoubtedly attract others to the region.”
Whether you’re an engineer, technician, business leader, or tradesperson, there has never been a better time to explore the opportunities in Defence and Manufacturing on the South Coast.
