“We also perform a wide variety of treatments as there are less specialist services here than in metro areas. I’ve had the opportunity to do additional study in orthopaedics and actively participate in surgeries when specialists are visiting. I’ve probably done more than most surgical residents.”
Being a vet on the South Coast means working with big and small animals, being in the clinic and on farms – where no two days are ever the same…
Kyah remembers knowing she wanted to be a vet from as young as 3 years old.
Her dad was a doctor and her brother also pursued human medicine but they knew better than to try and persuade her.
Kyah grew up in Shoalhaven Heads and went to Sydney to study Veterinary Science. She knew she wanted to return home with fond memories of growing up near the beach and enjoying the coast lifestyle.
She’d always had pets growing up and took them to Berry Vet Clinic so she already had a relationship with the team and loved doing her student placements there.
She was thrilled to then be offered a position at BVC after graduating:
“They are a great team and its amazing to work just 10 minutes from home.”
“I love the variety of the role and even on days that are cold and wet, when you’re out on the road the views are just amazing. It’s a beautiful part of the world.”
“My partner and I are very outdoorsy, we love going for walks and going to the beach after work during daylight savings,” she added.
Kyah enjoys the close connection she can make with patients:
“In regional areas like ours you do get to take the time to get to know people and see them return.
“We also perform a wide variety of treatments as there are less specialist services here than in metro areas.”
“I’ve had the opportunity to do additional study in orthopaedics and actively participate in surgeries when specialists are visiting.”
“I’ve probably done more than most surgical residents,” she noted.
Kyah’s had her fair share of challenges but she’s been grateful for the support of her team.
“Bryden and Sarah are so supportive and whatever we face we face it as a team,” she added.
