Sarah had always been interested in computers so when the time came to pick a place to do work experience, IT Basecamp in Huskisson was top of her list.

She was not disappointed. Sarah loved how many aspects there are to the business, the ability to help people when they called for support and of course, the team whom she found to be incredibly supportive and knowledgeable.

When the week was up, Sarah was invited to stay on working part time after school. She completed a Certificate 3 in Information Technology as part of her HSC and was ready to hit the ground running after graduating – taking on a full-time position as a Level 1 Help Desk Technician.

She immersed herself in courses on specific software to upskill herself and understand how to better support clients. Almost 6 years later she’s still learning:

“There’s always more to discover and regular updates mean things change very quickly.”

“One of the benefits of working for an MSP compared to being an IT Professional working within just one company is that you get exposure to so many different areas of IT.”

“This is great when you’re starting out because you learn the basics of everything and can see what specialisation sparks your interest.”

“I’ve been leaning into cyber security a lot more because I’ve seen first-hand how prevalent and damaging it is.”

Sarah has moved up to being a Level 2 Technician and loves being able to apply what she learns on the job.

She’s also grateful to have just a 10-minute commute to work with world class cafes at her fingertips:

“I have friends who work in industrial areas who are jealous that I’m only a few steps away from great coffee, shopping and beaches when they would spend all of their break just driving to a café.”

“It’s a very supportive workplace too, there’s always someone to turn to for advice in specific areas and so many avenues for a fulfilling career in IT,” added Sarah.
