From his beginnings as a fitter machinist to roles in hospitality and audio-visual technology, Gavin’s career has taken many turns. When he and his wife moved to the South Coast to raise their family, the lifestyle aligned perfectly with their dreams.
Returning to technical work after years as a stay-at-home dad, Gavin joined IT Basecamp as a Level 1 Help Desk Technician, bringing his problem-solving skills and customer focus to the team. Now a Level 2 Technician and team leader, Gavin thrives on the variety and complexity of his role.
“We live and work in a place where others holiday,” he says. “I often get out and about visiting clients, replacing equipment, managing breakdowns, and deploying new solutions. Other times I can work from home or be a 7-minute drive to the office.”
Sarah: Growing with IT
For Sarah, the journey into IT began with work experience at IT Basecamp during high school. Her enthusiasm for technology and problem-solving was immediately apparent, leading to a part-time role and a Certificate 3 in Information Technology during her HSC.
Now, nearly six years later, Sarah has risen through the ranks to become a Level 2 Help Desk Technician. She continues to upskill and explore new areas of IT, with a growing interest in cybersecurity due to its importance and impact.
“One of the benefits of working for an MSP is the exposure to so many different areas of IT,” Sarah explains. “It’s fantastic when you’re starting out because you can find what truly sparks your interest.”
Beyond professional growth, Sarah enjoys the lifestyle the South Coast offers. “With a 10-minute commute and beaches and cafes just steps away, I have friends who are envious of my work-life balance,” she laughs.
David: The Cybersecurity Expert
David’s journey to the South Coast is one of global adventure and professional evolution. Having honed his cybersecurity expertise through roles in countries like the Seychelles, Papua New Guinea, and the UK, David eventually found himself working in Sydney’s bustling IT sector. There, he specialised in internet security, forming connections with industry giants and staying ahead in the ever-changing landscape of cybersecurity.
The move to the South Coast came with the promise of a more balanced lifestyle for his family. Today, David works with IT Basecamp as the Partnerships Manager for Cyber Heroes, where he delivers cutting-edge risk assessments, website penetration testing, and cybersecurity training.
“It’s a great community here,” David shares. “I have an interesting job that leverages my skills, and my family is thriving too. Staying ahead in cybersecurity is a constant challenge, but seeing the direct impact of our work on local businesses is incredibly rewarding.”
