It is all possible!

A Day in the Life of… A Regional Site Supervisor: Building the Dream

Driving down the Kiama Bends and into Rose Valley on the Princes Highway between the mountains and the sea feels like home to Luke. As a young apprentice he had travelled ‘wherever the work was’ and often wondered on Sydney jobs why anyone would want to live in that chaos.

When he first ‘got off the tools’ and worked as a building site supervisor for a major company he enjoyed being based solely on the South Coast but felt more like a number than a person:

“We had apps for everything, everything was black and white and it was like being on a production line.”

When an opportunity came up to be a Site Supervisor for Hotondo Homes South Coast, he leapt at the chance:

“Adam the Director is very hands on, you can go to him if there’s an issue and he’ll deal with it personally.”

“Sometimes we’ll go for a motorbike ride, grab some lunch and have a beer together – it’s not just all about work, there’s an opportunity to bond and have a laugh,” he added.

Luke derives an enormous amount of satisfaction from seeing projects coming together:

“Sometimes I marvel at a completed build when I remember the patch of grass we started with.”

“It’s nice to drive past a build I worked on 10 years later and still feel that sense of pride – it’s very rewarding.”

Despite the fulfillment of seeing the end results the lead up keeps you on your toes says Luke:

“You need to be very patient and very organised to know what parts need to arrive when for the tradies – having experience as a tradie helps you understand the process to streamline it and put the right structures in place.”

“Some days you’ll be ordering site fences for a new build, or meeting tradies onsite, other days you’ll be handing over the keys to new homeowners.”

“Seeing feedback online about how amazing a build looks and comments about the quality make it all worthwhile,” added Luke.

The Hotondo Homes South Coast Family incorporates the regions of Ulladulla, Shoalhaven and Shellharbour, making it one of the largest builders on the South Coast. With the Site Supervisor team likely to grow in size as a result of projected business growth in coming months, we invite you to keep an eye on career opportunities as they open up here
