A Day in the life of… A General Manager of Broking: Where No Two Days are the Same

After 32 years as an Insurance Broker, Jason says he’s still learning something new every day about insurance, in a career that has been more fulfilling than he could have imagined. 

When Jason left school, he worked for a few different organisations but hadn’t ‘found his niche.’ 

He saw a job advertised in Sydney for the largest International Insurance Broker in the world and thought he’d give it a try on the basis that it could offer security and opportunity. 

Starting out as a junior and working on a clients account with 7 other people was a great learning experience but ultimately not fulfilling for Jason. He wanted to work hands on with people, to learn about their business and stand alongside them. 

He moved around within the company and the industry within 3 states in Australia but when he moved to Macey Insurance Brokers, he knew he was where he was meant to be: 

“The way I work aligns with the Macey way of doing things.” 

“We take the time to meet with people one on one, understand how they do business, look at their exposure and help them manage potential risks with a policy that matches their needs.”

“The cost factor in Sydney city meant getting out to meet with people face to face was not really an option.” 

“I prefer to be in a regional area where we can easily go out and see clients and build genuine relationships.”

A career highlight for Jason was supporting a crisis accommodation facility who were told they could no longer be insured due to the risks involved in their industry, but they required insurance to continue their service. Jason was able to negotiate an extension with their existing insurer and then secure a longer-term solution a short time later. The client was over the moon, and he loved helping an organisation who are doing incredible things for the community when they needed it most.
